Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an additional way of protection for your account. It ensures that you are the only one who can access your account, even if a hacker knows your password.
TOTP (Time-based One-Time Password) is one of the most popular methods of implementing two-factor authentication (2FA). Once set up, every time you log in to your account, you will need to enter not only your usual password but also an additional six-digit code, which is automatically generated by a dedicated authentication app and refreshed every 30 seconds.
We strongly recommend enabling 2FA to ensure security and prevent any potential unauthorized access to your account.
How to enable TOTP on the website?
To enable this method of two-factor authentication (2FA) on the web version of our exchange, follow these simple steps:
- Install Google Authenticator or other relevant app on your mobile device;
- Log in to your WhiteBIT account and go to Account Settings and Security;
- In the "Two-factor authentication" section, you will find a QR code. Scan it in the app or enter the code manually;
- Add the WhiteBIT tab to the app and enter the authentication code in the "Please enter the key" field. That’s it!
How to enable TOTP in a mobile app?
If you are using our exchange’s mobile app, please follow these steps:
- Go to your Account Settings located in the top left corner of the Home screen;
- At this point, you will need to either scan the QR code or manually enter your secret key into your authenticator app;
- Enter the verification code generated by your authenticator app and click the "Enable authenticator" button.
Done! – you have now enhanced the security of your account!
What are the key features of TOTP?
Changing your password or deactivating TOTP will result in certain functions being temporarily restricted for 72 hours. In particular, withdrawals (including P2P Express), the generation of WB codes and the purchase of Gift Cards will be suspended.
You will also receive an email notifying you of the changes to your account and the restrictions in place for 72 hours.
Please note: The restrictions will remain in place for 72 hours, even if you disable and then immediately re-enable TOTP.
Our top priority is to ensure the security of our users' data and funds.
