Verifying Your Non-Custodial Wallet in Line with the Travel Rule

What is the Travel Rule and Who It Applies To

The Travel Rule is an international regulatory requirement aimed at increasing the transparency and security of financial transactions.

It requires financial institutions and Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs) to collect and transmit certain information about the sender and receiver of cryptocurrency transactions to prevent money laundering and terrorism financing.

When the Travel Rule Applies

The Travel Rule applies to both deposits and withdrawals
 

Information that may be required:

  • Full name
  • Platform name (VASP)
  • Country of residence
     

Custodial and Non-Custodial Wallets

Custodial Wallet — the private keys are held by a third party (exchange or service).

Characteristics:

  • No seed phrase or private key
  • Login via email or phone
  • The platform signs transactions on your behalf
     

Non-Custodial Wallet — the private keys are held by the owner.

Characteristics:

  • Has a seed phrase (12/24 words)
  • Can be imported into another app
  • You sign transactions yourself
     

What is AOPP and Why It’s Needed

Address Ownership Proof Protocol (AOPP) — a protocol that automates wallet ownership verification.

Advantages:

  • Verification without screenshots or manual data entry
  • Cryptographic signature in the wallet as proof of ownership
  • Secure data transmission along with the transaction

 

Preparing for Verification

Before verification, prepare:

  • Wallet address in the required network
  • Access to the wallet (extension, mobile app, or hardware device)
  • Stable internet connection
  • Updated version of the wallet app or extension
     

Wallet Verification for Different Networks

Ethereum and Other EVM-Compatible Networks

Supported wallets:

  • Ledger, Trezor
  • MetaMask (extension), Trust Wallet (app), WalletConnect, and others

 

Ledger / Trezor:

  1. Connect your wallet to your device and unlock it.
  2. Select the wallet in AOPP.
  • Ledger — confirm in the browser pop-up.

 

  • Trezor — click “Pair devices” and confirm in the browser pop-up.

 

  1. Sign the message.
  2. Status — Verified.
     

MetaMask:

  1. Install and open the extension.
  2. Log in.
  3. Click MetaMask in AOPP.
  4. Sign the message.
  5. Click Confirm.

 

Trust Wallet (WalletConnect):

  1. Open Trust Wallet on your phone.
  2. In AOPP, select WalletConnect.
  3. Scan the QR code.
  4. Sign the message in the app.

 

Tron

Supported wallets:

  • Ledger
  • TronLink (extension or mobile app)
     

TronLink (browser):

  1. Log in to the TronLink extension.
  2. Go to TronScan.org.
  3. Click Connect Wallet → TronLink.
  4. Under More — Sign & Verify.
  5. Paste the message from AOPP.
  6. Sign and encode in Base64 (requires a third-party tool for encoding).
  7. Paste the signature and address into WhiteBIT.

 

TronLink (mobile app):

  1. In the mobile app, go to Discover.
  2. Go to TronScan.org.
  3. Follow the same steps as the browser guide (More → Sign & Verify)

 

Note: WhiteBIT is not responsible for verification via third-party platforms.
 

Solana

Supported wallets:

  • Ledger
  • Phantom, MetaMask, and other wallets supporting Solana.
     

Phantom:

  1. Connect your wallet to SolScan.io by clicking Connect Wallet.
  2. In Resources, select Sign Message.
  3. Paste the message and sign it.
  4. Paste the signature into WhiteBIT (no Base64 needed).

 

Bitcoin

Supported wallets:

  • Ledger
  • BlueWallet (mobile)
     

BlueWallet:

  1. Open the wallet and click the three dots.
  2. Select Sign/Verify Message.
  3. Paste the message from AOPP.
  4. Sign and paste it into WhiteBIT.

 

Supported Networks

Verification is available for:

  • Tron
  • Solana
  • BTC
  • Ethereum
  • BSC
  • REEF
  • Polygon (Voxel)
     

For other networks, verification is not available. Select withdrawal to another exchange and enter the wallet name in the VASP field.
