WhiteBIT supports BTC deposits and withdrawals via the Bitcoin Lightning Network, allowing you to transfer BTC instantly, compared to on-chain transactions.
The Bitcoin Lightning Network is a Layer 2 payment protocol built on top of the Bitcoin network. It is designed to enable faster and more efficient BTC payments without recording every individual transaction directly on the Bitcoin blockchain.
Lightning transactions are processed through payment channels, while the Bitcoin blockchain remains the underlying settlement layer. This makes Lightning particularly suitable for fast, frequent, and smaller-value BTC payments.
What are Lightning transactions on WhiteBIT?
When depositing or withdrawing BTC, you can select either the Bitcoin network or the Lightning Network, provided that the wallet or platform you are using supports the selected network.
The two options differ in how transactions are processed:
- Bitcoin network: transactions are recorded directly on the Bitcoin blockchain and require network confirmations.
-
Lightning Network: transactions are processed through Bitcoin's Layer 2, which allows payments to be completed near instantly, off chain.
Choose the network based on the compatibility of the sending or receiving service, transaction amount, applicable fees, and the required processing time.
