The L1 network will shut down in five stages. It will accept transactions until the snapshot block. After that, it will be able to answer read requests only, which means that you can look up balances, blocks, and transactions, but you cannot send new transactions.
The L1 sunset stages
- Termination of producing blocks. The L1 sequencers will stop, and the last block will be a snapshot block.
- State dump and L2 genesis. At this stage, the full L1 state will be exported and transformed into the L2 genesis.
- Domain cut-over. Here, whitechain.io and explorer.whitechain.io begin serving the L2; L1 services move to "legacy" hostnames.
- L1 read-only period. From this moment, the L1 explorer and RPC answer read methods only, and it is impossible to make new transactions.
- L1 decommissioning. The L1 is shut down permanently, and its history is no longer reachable from any Whitechain endpoint.
Please note, stages 1, 2, and 3 will be executed right on the day of the L2 Mainnet launch. Also, you will be able to export data from the L1 network only at the 4th stage.
FAQ
Why is my transaction history not carried over?
The migration copies only the final state of the chain (balances, contract code, storage, nonces), not the record of how it got there. Transaction history and event logs stay on the old chain.
I have a transaction pending on L1. What happens to it?
Pending mempool transactions are not migrated. Anything unconfirmed at the snapshot block never executes, so you will have to process your transaction again on the L2 network.
